Dear Hiring Manager,

 

I hope you are well! My name is Cristy Kim Tran and I am excitedly writing to you regarding the position at your company. I am a recent graduate with a M.S. Industrial/Organizational Psychology from California State University, Long Beach. My previous consultation and work experiences have cultivated my interest in instructional design and organizational development. My mission is to cultivate an inclusive, innovative, and empowering work environment to optimize job performance and satisfaction. I believe my experiences and achievements make me an ideal candidate.

 

Through my work experiences, I have gained a deep appreciation for people development and data-driven processes. During my time as a graduate student, I was able to hone my knowledge, skills, and abilities in areas such as organizational development and training design. This also fortified my interest in the L&D space and organizational development field through various external consultation projects and courses. I am now looking to grow my skills and advance my career at your organization. Some competencies I can contribute to your organization include:

 

  • Learning & Development: I have had ample experience consulting with various companies and organizations on a variety of organizational development projects. Training is a particular specialty that I harness through working with a local branch of the Boys and Girls Club of America. Working in a collaborative team setting, my team and I were able to coordinate with key stakeholders to identify a training need within the organization as well as create a comprehensive training program. This includes a summary report and both trainer and trainee manuals. As an internal consultant, I was able to address a performance gap within Yusen by creating a comprehensive training program for the Leads of our Americas locations. Another external consultation project I worked on was to improve the business practices of a local organization in Cerritos, CA. Through this organizational development project, my team and I employed qualitative data collection and analysis to propose a strategic plan which addressed areas of improvement for the company. This experience has given me the opportunity to excel working individually or in a team setting.

  • Academia: During my first year in the graduate program, I took a course in Personnel Psychology where I was able to utilize scientific theories and translate them into applied work by performing a job analysis consultation for an entertainment and production company. In my second year, I was able to employ my knowledge in learning theory and instructional design to create training programs. Additionally, I have ample experience in psychological research within varying fields ranging from clinical psychology to industrial/organizational psychology. With that, I have both experiences with qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis. 

  • Program Management: In my roles of being a volunteer coordinator, lab manager, and other roles, I have gained ample experience in leading successful teams and projects. An essential aspect of being a peer educator was fostering peer-to-peer relationships. This required a keen sensitivity to the campus community and a high degree of effective communication and collaboration. As a volunteer coordinator, I acquired experience recruiting, retaining, and training our volunteers, organizing volunteer programs, and presenting creative mental health and wellness talks and workshops. As an advocate for mental health and suicide prevention, I facilitated suicide prevention training for the Long Beach campus community. As lab manager, a lot of my tasks were allocated towards managing our research objectives through training and selection of our current and potential lab assistants. I also developed the project tasks and duties, trained my team of research assistants, and further cultivated the study’s vision and direction.

 

These experiences demonstrate my technical skills working with data, interpersonal skills, and experience with designing learning material while working with various teams. I hope to further my knowledge and skills with you and your team. It would be an honor to contribute my experience and expertise towards building a more diverse and inclusive environment for this company and to support an enriching experience for the team.
